Material Used TO Make OBM – Drape

1. The calibrated component of our OBM drape is crafted from either Biodegradable film, a type of material, which, under sufficient water, oxygen, and suitable nutrients and temperature, is able to decompose into carbon dioxide and water by microbes (Highly recommended) of Polyethylene film, a type of plastic film derived from ethylene, a hydrocarbon primarily sourced from natural gas or petroleum

2.The reusable mat, typically affixed to the drape, is expertly crafted from rexine, a synthetic material blended with polyester. Remarkably, it poses no irritation risk, even for individuals with highly sensitive skin.
What sets rexine apart is its exceptional elasticity, which ensures it retains its original shape and size, even in the face of extensive wear and tear. Additionally, its impermeable nature makes it a prime choice for secondary use with the drape, ensuring optimal performance.

Production Equipment

Our essential manufacturing tool is the Blowing Machine which produces the biodegradable film and virgin pure polyethene film. This advanced equipment is instrumental in shaping the biodegradable/Polyethylene film, a crucial element of our OBM-Drape.
It efficiently transforms raw materials into the high-quality film that forms the foundation of our innovative product, guaranteeing the top-notch quality and reliability we are dedicated to providing to our customers.

Validation Through Testing

Our OBM-Drape has undergone rigorous testing and validation at nineteen selected sites which were performed during the Emotive trial and some of the countries in COMESA region including Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda. These tests have consistently proven its effectiveness in the prompt detection of postpartum haemorrhage. Notably, the well-researched article published in the New England Journal of Medicine, based on studies conducted in multiple African countries, underscores the urgent need for such drapes in detecting PPH.

Testing Of OBM – Drape With Liquid Such As SIMULATED Blood

We understand the critical importance of testing our OBM-Drape with liquids like SIMULATED blood or water. This testing process ensures the product’s reliability and effectiveness during real-life scenarios, specifically in the context of childbirth. Rest assured, our commitment to quality and safety extends to rigorous testing procedures to deliver a product that meets the highest standards of performance.

Dumping Of Calibrated Part And Reuse Of The Matt

Proper disposal and reuse methods for our used drapes are crucial. We recommend two primary methods:
Incineration: The detached pouch component is safely disposed of through incineration, where it is burned along with its contents in a controlled environment. However, the pouch or single use OBM drape that is made from the biodegradable can be dumped in the designated dumping site for biohazard and will decompose naturally.

Cleaning OBM Mat: The mat should not be subjected to autoclaving, or any form of  heat or steam. The material should undergo a high-level disinfection process at the hospital level to ensure its hygiene and safety.

It’s important to emphasize that our product is designed exclusively for hospital use during childbirth. As such, the disposal and management of medical waste are carefully detailed and aligned with the methods described above. We do not recommend or endorse any other use for our product.

Our Commitment

We are dedicated to ongoing research in collaboration with our partners to ensure the development of an affordable tool that can be utilized in every healthcare facility. Furthermore, we will actively engage with relevant government agencies to establish policies that incorporate this essential tool as part of the standard maternity package for childbirth nationwide. Our commitment is to enhance maternal healthcare and reduce the incidence of PPH across the country.
