Initiated by the United Nations Environment Programme (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unenvironment.org\/\">UNEP<\/a>) and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ed.ted.com\/\">TED-Ed<\/a>, Earth School takes students on a 30-day \u201cAdventure\u201d through the natural world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The curated Earth School content features videos, reading materials and activities \u2014 which will be translated into 10 languages \u2014 to help students gain an understanding of the environment while considering their role within it. This is the biggest online learning initiative in UNEP\u2019s history and is available for free on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ed.ted.com\/earthschool\">TED-Ed\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), more than 1.5 billion learners are affected by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/covid19\/educationresponse\">COVID-19 school closures<\/a>. The pandemic has caused a health, economic, and education crisis; in the age of physical and social constraints, there is a strong need for global science literacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is why UNEP and TED-Ed \u2014 in coordination with 30 collaborators, including\u00a0National Geographic,\u00a0WWF\u00a0and\u00a0UNESCO\u00a0\u2014 came together to launch Earth School in just over two weeks. Built for children and youth ages 5-18, it spans 30 school days that run between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.earthday.org\/\">Earth Day<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldenvironmentday.global\/\">World Environment Day<\/a>\u00a0on June 5, which this year will take place under the banner of Time for Nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TED-Ed creates free, video-based lessons on everything from animals and climate change\u00a0to underwater farms.
