One\nof the less frequently reported impacts of human activity on the environment is\nthe presence of artificial light. Lighting disrupts photosynthesis and the\nactivities of insects, birds and other animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A\nrecent study, Light pollution is a driver of insect declines, says habitat\nloss, pesticide use, invasive species and climate change have all played a role\nin insect declines globally, but that artificial light at night is another\nimportant\u2014but often overlooked\u2014cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nlight affects insect movement, foraging, reproduction and predation, says the\nstudy which, however, suggests that insect biodiversity loss can be mitigated\nwith better informed lighting practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
