Having practiced journalism for six\nyears, Nelly Bosare shifted lanes into the business of ecofriendly essential\nproducts like wooden toothbrush, glass straws and fabric bags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her journey along the green path did\nnot stop there. She created a Vlog for sharing stories on sustainability\npractices, featuring entrepreneurs running green businesses in Kenya to\nencourage green ventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From media house, the founder of Green\nThing Kenya has found her calling in promoting the triple bottom-line of\npeople, planet and profit among businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn my journey as a sustainability vlogger,\nI realised we can talk about the protection of the environment all we want, but\nif we do not have the products to demonstrate how to be sustainable, what\noptions do we have, it is very difficult. It sounds like an abstract idea to\nmost people.\u201d Nelly said in an interview. She recently interviewed Bambuzi Toys\n\u2013 a startup producing handmade children toys out of wood and African fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides the Vlog, Nelly\u2019s eco-shop makes\ngreen household products including wooden toothbrush and bags as part of her\ncampaign to promote eco-consumerism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe problem is really not plastic rather the single-use plastic.  You use an item for a maximum of 5 minutes and throw it away. Then it will take more than 100 years to break down, \u201cshe said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With her vlog, Nelly seeks to spark\ndiscourse around conscious consumerism in Kenya and fuel a shift towards a\nculture of sustainable living, her goal being to see more consumers walking\ndown the plastic-free path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\u2019s, for instance, on a quest to\nconvince restaurants around Nairobi to ditch plastic straws in favour of glass\nuse, as is currently the case at River Caf\u00e9 in Karura Forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cIf\nit is not good for the environment then it is not good for you and I,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plastic pollution, alongside climate change, is one of the most pressing modern-day challenges facing humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
