{"id":7943,"date":"2020-02-05T09:57:28","date_gmt":"2020-02-05T06:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=7943"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:50","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:50","slug":"two-rwandan-entities-named-among-africas-top-10-clean-energy-innovators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2020\/02\/05\/two-rwandan-entities-named-among-africas-top-10-clean-energy-innovators\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Rwandan Entities Named Among Africa\u2019s Top 10 Clean Energy Innovators"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By The New\nTimes <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA)&nbsp;and\nAmpersand have been listed among Africa\u2019s most promising climate and clean\nenergy innovators lined up for the 2020 Ashden Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RURA has been nominated for \u201cbringing cleaner buses to the\nstreets of Kigali\u201d, while Ampersand is being credited with introducing\n\u201celectric motorcycles designed and manufactured in Africa\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While RURA is the national utility regulator, Ampersand is\na private firm, whose mission, it says, is \u201cbuilding affordable electric\nvehicles and charging systems for the three million motorcycle taxi drivers in\nEast Africa, starting with Rwanda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The list includes organisations that carry out outstanding\nwork across Africa to electrify rural areas, boost sustainable urban transport\nand improve the lives of refugees and farmworkers, according to a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides RURA and Ambersand, eight other 10 African\norganisations made the list which also features 34 other innovators from around\nthe world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Top eleven finalists will be announced in June and\nsubsequently celebrated at the Ashden Awards Ceremony in London this July, the\norganisation said in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAfrica\u2019s impressive culture of innovation and\nentrepreneurship is reflected in our long list.
