They shouldn\u2019t. We are facing a catastrophe of biblical proportions\nunless we act now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has been said that the next big war will be waged over\nresources, mainly water. It\u2019s one of those clich\u00e9s that ought to be repeated,\nagain and again, until the message sinks in that we must, as a matter of\nurgency, re-look at our natural resources afresh, figure out what we are doing\nwrong and halt the plunge into the unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, a billion people do not have access to clean and reliable\ndrinking water. This is an unacceptable figure. Two million people, according\nto the World Health Organisation (WHO), die every year from avoidable\nwaterborne diseases. The majority of those affected are children below five\nyears. It need not be like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even though Africa contributes an insignificant amount to global\nwarming, the continent has borne the brunt of climate change.
