The general trend that emerged is that more firms\nare increasingly becoming conscious of how operations, consumption and\nproduction are impacting the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And even more, are exploring avenues for improvement as\ncompany boards and managers become more environmentally conscious amid growing\ncalls for accountability in light of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interesting takeaways surfaced from the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin with, companies with one or more women on their\nboards or in top management tended to perform a lot better in the environmental\nmanagement side of their business. It\u2019s a no-brainer that gender diversity in\nthe composition of the board plays a big role in promoting sustainability\npractices, beyond strengthening a firm\u2019s business case.Along the gender\ndiversity line, the study revealed yet another finding, a less glamorous one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The longer the female executives sat on company boards\nand held corporate leadership, the less their advocacy became for sustainable\nbusiness practices. With time, they progressively showed apathy to\nenvironmental concerns, among other sustainability concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was almost as if the hand of time moulded women\nexecutives into a profit-first mindset, traditionally associated with their\nmale counterparts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another glaring finding is that home-grown businesses are\nstill playing catch-up with foreign-owned companies in observing eco-friendly\npractices.
