{"id":7661,"date":"2020-01-22T08:19:14","date_gmt":"2020-01-22T05:19:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=7661"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:48","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:48","slug":"africas-first-drone-and-data-academy-opens-in-malawi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2020\/01\/22\/africas-first-drone-and-data-academy-opens-in-malawi\/","title":{"rendered":"Africa&#8217;s First Drone and Data Academy Opens in Malawi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong> By Mavhuto Banda<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lilongwe \u2014 The opening of the first such academy in Africa &#8211; it has started operating in Malawi &#8211; is a major step towards the use of drones in programmes and services that will impact the lives of children and young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The historic African Drone and Data Academy (ADDA) opened in the capital, Lilongwe, this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It builds on the work of Africa&#8217;s first humanitarian corridor launched in the Southern African country in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The academy will develop expertise in the use of drones for humanitarian, development and commercial purposes across the continent through a 12-week course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It plans to train some 150 students to build and pilot drones by 2021.
