{"id":7207,"date":"2019-12-17T10:29:14","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T07:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=7207"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:46","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:46","slug":"kws-steps-up-hunt-for-stray-lions-in-rongai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/12\/17\/kws-steps-up-hunt-for-stray-lions-in-rongai\/","title":{"rendered":"KWS Steps Up Hunt For Stray Lions In Rongai"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Business Daily<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has stepped up\nsurveillance in the Ongata Rongai area where a lion killed a man on Monday and\nthree others \u2013 a lioness and two male cubs &#8211; were spotted marauding near River\nKandisi and Mutondo Ridge estate at the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKWS has deployed a 24-hour surveillance team to patrol\nRongai\u2019s Tuala area for any stray lion in the environs where the unfortunate\nincident of a man being mauled by a lion occurred,\u201d the agency said in a\nstatement on Friday even as it downplayed reports that ten lions were on the\nloose in the area neighbouring the Nairobi National Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the assurance, residents of Ongata Rongai are\nliving in fear of an encounter with lions, with witnesses saying that early\nrisers had spotted a pride of the cats at different times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Witnesses told the Business Daily that on Friday and\nSaturday a lioness and two cubs were spotted near Riverview Academy at around\n5am. The school is not very far from River Kandisi.
