{"id":7090,"date":"2019-12-10T09:37:28","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T06:37:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=7090"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:45","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:45","slug":"flower-firm-simbi-rose-installs-solar-power-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/12\/10\/flower-firm-simbi-rose-installs-solar-power-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"Flower Firm Simbi Rose Installs Solar Power Plant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Simon Ciuru <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thika-based flower farm Simbi Roses on Saturday installed a 150-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar system in Thika as part of a wider plan to reduce its electricity costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It joins a growing number of companies in agricultural and commercial space leasing sectors that have built solar and hydro energy plants for their consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They include Kenya Tea Development Agency and Centum Investment Company, which built hydro and solar power plants respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the companies sell their excess capacity to electricity distributor Kenya Power, with the independent power generation seen as a bid to boost supply reliability besides reducing energy costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simbi\u2019s solar system consists of 454 solar panels and five inverters that it said would help the agricultural farm reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 144 metric tonnes per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe system will help Simbi Roses reduce its overall power costs and carbon footprint.
