{"id":7017,"date":"2019-12-06T08:46:42","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T05:46:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=7017"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:44","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:44","slug":"the-sahel-and-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/12\/06\/the-sahel-and-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"The Sahel And Climate Change"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Daily Nation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sahel, the vast region that stretches along the\nSahara&#8217;s southern rim from the Atlantic to the Red Sea, is on the front line of\nclimate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its extreme vulnerability to drought and shifting\nrainfall patterns is ratcheting up problems of poverty, population pressure and\njihadist violence, experts say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the start of the Industrial Revolution, global\ntemperatures have risen 1.1 degrees Celsius (1.98 degrees Fahrenheit),\naccording to a report issued in September by United in Science, gathering the\nworld&#8217;s leading climate agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But this average warming is around 50 percent greater in\nthe Sahel.
