We are giving a warning for people\nto vacate,\u201d Mr Shurie said in Nairobi on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He warned Kenyans who live along the banks of the river in\nGarissa, Hola and Garsen in Tana River to move to higher ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, the velocity of the water in the river has\nincreased to 336 cubic meters per second, compared to 30-100 cubic meters\ninitially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heavy rains will increase the volume of water in the river\nas well as the dam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Other Areas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Generally, all Kenyans living along rivers and in riparian\nareas have been asked to move to higher ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPeople need to be vigilant. All Kenyans living in riparian\nareas [should] go to higher ground,\u201d Mr Shurie said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The WRA also warned people living along Ewaso River in\nIresaboru, Isiolo County, and Mathioya River, areas which it described as high\nrisk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents of Greenpark Estate along Stone Athi, Seefar\nEstate and all buildings along the Nairobi Dam embankment and Kiserian Dam in\nKajiado County are also at risk, the authority said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/news\/Alarm-Masinga-Dam-nears-overflow\/1056-5364494-p7m04i\/index.html\">Read\nmore\u2026<\/a> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Bernardine Mutanu Kenyans living downstream River Tana have been directed to vacate immediately as Masinga Dam is likely to overflow.
