{"id":6797,"date":"2019-11-26T08:52:06","date_gmt":"2019-11-26T05:52:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=6797"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:42","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:42","slug":"we-can-improve-our-clean-power-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/11\/26\/we-can-improve-our-clean-power-status\/","title":{"rendered":"We Can Improve Our Clean Power Status"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Daily\nNation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That Kenya\nis a powerhouse in renewable energy has been confirmed by its listing among the\ntop five fastest-growing solar energy markets in Africa last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According\nto an analysis by Solar Plaza International BV, the five countries contributed\na combined 1,067 megawatts of newly-installed photovoltaic (PV) capacity within\na year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kenya is\nnumber three with a 245 per cent increase, or 55MW, from its 2017 figure of\n38MW to 93MW last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But although the enviable status is a c\u00e9l\u00e8bre, we should not rest on our laurels. The fastest- and second-fastest-growing solar market in the continent leaves us in leaps and bounds in terms of solar installations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Top in\nannual growth, Egypt\u2019s solar industry burst onto the scene last year by adding\n581MW of PV capacity (more than 10-fold of Kenya\u2019s feat) to make its total\nsolar energy contribution into their energy mix 750MW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of a total solar PV installation, South Africa is flexing its muscles with total installations of 2,559, an increase by 373MW, almost eight times more than Kenya\u2019s effort and over thrice its geothermal generation by KenGen.
