These assessments are fastidious and time-consuming, and there are\nmore than 350,000 plant species in all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At-Risk<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To work around this problem, a team coordinated by a botanist\nfrom the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development, Thomas\nCouvreur, carried out a computer analysis of the status of more than 22,000\nvascular plant species in tropical Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To perform the analysis, they used information compiled in a database called Rainbio that is maintained by the French Foundation for Biodiversity Research\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/lifestyle\/health\/Africa-tropical-flora-threatened-with-extinction\/1954202-5356788-nks5s7\/index.html\">Read more>><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By AFP A third of the species of tropical plants in Africa are potentially threatened with extinction, according to a preliminary estimate published Wednesday by the journal Science Advances.
