{"id":6530,"date":"2019-11-13T09:17:09","date_gmt":"2019-11-13T06:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=6530"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:40","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:40","slug":"lets-trust-african-scientists-in-war-on-hunger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/11\/13\/lets-trust-african-scientists-in-war-on-hunger\/","title":{"rendered":"Let\u2019s Trust African Scientists In War On Hunger"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By\nBusiness Daily<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the West, daily, people are asking themselves, \u201cWhat\nwill I eat today?\u201d But in my home, Africa, people daily are asking themselves a\nmore challenging question: \u201cWill I eat today?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reflecting on the second question, I have concluded\nthat it is time for the public to put their trust in scientists about the role\nthat genetically improved organisms can play in answering it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sadly, Africa continues to lag in the adoption of biotech\ncrops 23 years after they were first commercialised, with only two of the\ncontinent\u2019s 54 countries now growing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delay is tragic since there is more than enough\nevidence that biotech crop adoption could address the challenges of hunger and\nmalnutrition globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Africa, it is time we focus on diligent and accelerated regulatory regimes, as well as decisions based on science and the benefits of agricultural biotechnology.
