{"id":6506,"date":"2019-11-12T09:17:45","date_gmt":"2019-11-12T06:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=6506"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:40","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:40","slug":"kigali-to-host-global-cancer-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/11\/12\/kigali-to-host-global-cancer-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"Kigali To Host Global Cancer Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Ange Iliza<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kigaliwill soon become home to Africa\u2019s first\nCity Cancer Challenge (C\/Can) Foundation, an organisation that partners with\ncities to deliver quality and equitable cancer care for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development was disclosed on Monday as the City of\nKigali hosted a delegation led by Princess Dina Mired of Jordan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delegation was meeting the City of Kigali\u2019s C\/Can\ncommittee members to discuss the ongoing engagement process of cancer care and\ntreatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pudence Rubingisa, the Mayor of the City of Kigali,\nshowcased the progress made through the C\/Can model in tackling cancer\nchallenges in Kigali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Committee reviewed key tasks and identified the\npriorities of the city of Kigali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kigali is the first African city to be introduced to the\nCity Cancer Challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Princess Dina Mired, President of the Union for\nInternational Cancer Control (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uicc.org\/\">UICC<\/a>) under\nwhich the C\/Can Foundation operates, said Rwanda\u2019s will to collaborate\nattracted the organization\u2019s interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRwanda is an example of how political will, realistic\nplanning, prioritization and appropriate resources can work together towards\nthe implementation of concrete measures to reduce the national cancer burden,\u201d\nPrincess Mired told the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C\/Can foundation will provide technical and managerial\nsupport. It will also help in facilitating and organising donation activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCancer is a costly disease (to treat) and nobody has enough\nmoney for treatment, infrastructures and facilities.
