Each year, fewer\npeople are being diagnosed with the disease. The recent World Health\nOrganisation (WHO) global TB report, which gathers data from 202 countries and\nterritories,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/tb\/publications\/global_report\/en\/\">shows<\/a>&nbsp;a\n6.3% reduction in the number of new TB infections between 2015 and 2018. This\ntrend of decreasing incidence is also evident in Africa, where it&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.who.int\/iris\/bitstream\/handle\/10665\/250441\/9789241565394-eng.pdf\">fell<\/a>&nbsp;from\n275 per 100 000 people in 2015 to 231 per 100 000 in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this improvement\nis still not enough to achieve the United Nations\u2019 goal of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/tb\/strategy\/en\/\">ending TB by 2030<\/a>. Worldwide, TB\nremains the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/68\/wr\/mm6811a3.htm\">leading\ncause of death<\/a>&nbsp;from a single infectious agent. Despite excellent\nvaccine coverage in endemic areas and the wide availability of effective drug\ntreatment, around 10 million people still fell ill with TB in 2018 and 1.4\nmillion people died from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Africa stills bears\nthe brunt of the TB epidemic, accounting for over&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/tb\/publications\/global_report\/tb19_Exec_Sum_15October2019.pdf?ua=1\">24%<\/a>&nbsp;of\nall TB cases.
