This is because they have begun to\novercome two big hurdles. The first was concerns about high cost. The second\nwas their inability to provide secure energy supply. A number of factors\nhave&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/theenergybit.com\/2019\/02\/01\/technological-advances-in-renewable-energy\/?cn-reloaded=1\">improved\ntheir accessibility<\/a>&nbsp;and affordability. These include technological\nimprovements, economies of scale and increased competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The share of renewable energies in the overall energy mix\nwill certainly have an impact on electricity market dynamics. This includes\nenergy prices. Prices are the most effective signal to users and potential\ninvestors about alternative energy sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why understanding how a higher share of renewable\nenergy in the energy mix influences electricity prices can help policy makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The impact on retail prices of electricity isn\u2019t uniform. It\ndiffers from country to country, and is influenced by regulatory frameworks.\nNor is it the same over time. For example,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1364032115008151\">in\nSpain<\/a>, the higher renewable energy share in the mix led to higher\nelectricity prices between 2002 and 2009. This was due to the high costs of the\nrenewable energy technologies at the time. After 2009 prices fell.
