{"id":6428,"date":"2019-11-07T08:31:14","date_gmt":"2019-11-07T05:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=6428"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:40","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:40","slug":"toothbrushes-straws-and-cigarette-filters-harm-the-environment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/11\/07\/toothbrushes-straws-and-cigarette-filters-harm-the-environment\/","title":{"rendered":"Toothbrushes, Straws And Cigarette Filters Harm The Environment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Anita Murage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we move towards a more eco-conscious decade where we no\nlonger litter, and decrease our greenhouse gas emissions for a cleaner and\nhealthier environment, just how do everyday items contribute to the degradation\nof the environment even after we dispose of them in the \u2018right\u2019 way?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two years ago, the government effected a ban on polythene\nbags, which were then a common fixture in everyday lives of citizens and\nharmful to the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Environment Management Authority has since\nreported an 80 per cent compliance rate with the ban, overall cleanliness in\nmost towns and an improvement in the collective attitude of Kenyans in matters\nof environmental consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Eco-Friendly Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the largest problem tackled, how can citizens\nincorporate eco-friendly solutions in their homes to further decrease their\ncarbon footprint?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the health implications of tobacco smoking, it is\nalso detrimental to the environment. Cigarette filters, a commonly discarded\nitem, form the bulk of non-biodegradable items.
