{"id":6336,"date":"2019-11-04T09:10:59","date_gmt":"2019-11-04T06:10:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=6336"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:39","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:39","slug":"large-households-linked-to-deaths-of-children-under-five","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/11\/04\/large-households-linked-to-deaths-of-children-under-five\/","title":{"rendered":"Large Households Linked To Deaths Of Children Under Five"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Daily Nation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Children\nunder the age of five in Africa are more likely to die due to a degraded\nenvironment and increasing population density, a report has shown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of\nthe key factors found to affect high child mortality rates include air\npollution, unclean water, poor sanitation, large household sizes and\nenvironmental degradation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the World Health Organisation, an estimated 5.6 million children under five years died in 2016 and in Sub-Saharan Africa, one in 13 children die before turning five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nresearchers analysed data to explain the correlation between increased child\nmortality, environmental degradation and the population density of all mainland\ncountries across Africa. \u201cOur research highlights there is a direct correlation\nbetween child deaths, population density and environmental degradation so they\nno longer have a reason to do so with this new evidence,\u201d said paediatrician\nprofessor Peter Le Sou\u00ebf from UWA\u2019s Medical School. <a href=\"\/ASM\/hildren%20under%20the%20age%20of%20five%20in%20Africa%20are%20more%20likely%20to%20die%20due%20to%20a%20degraded%20environment%20and%20increasing%20population%20density,%20a%20report%20has%20shown.\">Read\nmore&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Daily Nation Children under the age of five in Africa are more likely to die due to a degraded environment and increasing population density, a report has shown.
