{"id":6168,"date":"2019-10-28T14:33:54","date_gmt":"2019-10-28T11:33:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=6168"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:38","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:38","slug":"the-one-question-on-education-we-need-to-answer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/10\/28\/the-one-question-on-education-we-need-to-answer\/","title":{"rendered":"The One Question On Education We Need To Answer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>By Daily Nation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\ncoming week, our children will sit their primary school exit examinations, the\nKenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Results in\nthis examination determine which secondary schools the children will be\nadmitted to, with the top scorers having a pick of schools considered to be the\nbest, while those at the bottom of the pyramid are sent to whatever is left\nafterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our\neducation system, 8-4-4, has been roundly condemned as being too\nexamination-focused and neglecting important aspects of child development that\neducation is supposed to be responsible for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ninitial conceptualization, according to public pronouncements over the past 30\nyears, was to create a system that gave young people the opportunity to learn\npractical life skills that would be useful to them even if they dropped out of\nschool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over time,\nand due to the huge investments required for this, the practical components\nwere gradually eliminated from the curriculum and what was left was lots of\nrote learning. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/oped\/opinion\/The-one-question-on-education-we-need-to-answer\/440808-5326240-jong20z\/index.html\">Read\nmore&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Daily Nation This coming week, our children will sit their primary school exit examinations, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.
