{"id":6060,"date":"2019-10-22T10:03:20","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T07:03:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=6060"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:37","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:37","slug":"olkaria-geothermal-line-to-be-ready-in-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/10\/22\/olkaria-geothermal-line-to-be-ready-in-april\/","title":{"rendered":"Olkaria Geothermal Line To Be Ready In April"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>By\nBusiness Daily<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco) says\nits Olkaria &#8211; Lessos- Kisumu line will be completed by April, ending power\noutages that have plagued the western region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the moment, the region relies on an 80kV transmission\nmostly fed by weather-dependent Sondu Miriu and Turkwel hydro-power stations\nand costly imports from neighbouring Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 300 kilometre high-voltage-220 kilovolt (kV)\/400kV\nline under construction is to transmit \u201ccheap, reliable, green and renewable\nenergy\u201d from Naivasha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe line evacuates power from the geothermal generation in Olkaria, connecting to the national grid.
