{"id":6033,"date":"2019-10-18T10:52:27","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T07:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=6033"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:37","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:37","slug":"to-end-poverty-food-must-be-on-the-table","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/10\/18\/to-end-poverty-food-must-be-on-the-table\/","title":{"rendered":"To End Poverty, Food Must Be On The Table"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By <\/strong><strong>The New Times<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hunger\nis the main cause of poverty since it is difficult to sleep on an empty stomach\nto get the energy to work the next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Numbers\nhave been a bit kind to Africa in the last few years as it has seen poverty\nlevels reduce significantly, from 54 per cent in 1990 to 41 per cent in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lot\nof ambitious plans have been drawn up to end poverty, or at least reduce it\nsignificantly, but that will just be akin to taking one step forward and two backwards\nif the issue of food security is not addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\ndoes not make any sense that 1.3 billion tonnes of food, a third of the world\u2019s\nproduction, is wasted every year when there are hungry people everywhere. Why\ncan\u2019t all the Nobel economic and scientific laureates come up with practical\nsolutions instead of empty declarations of \u201cinternational day\u201d for this and\nthat?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why\nnot follow in the Netherlands\u2019 footsteps that reclaimed most of its land from\nthe sea and is now a major agricultural producer despite having less farming\nspace than many?
