{"id":5999,"date":"2019-10-17T10:28:43","date_gmt":"2019-10-17T07:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=5999"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:37","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:37","slug":"heavy-rains-destroy-newly-commissioned-bridge-in-kyenjojo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/10\/17\/heavy-rains-destroy-newly-commissioned-bridge-in-kyenjojo\/","title":{"rendered":"Heavy Rains Destroy Newly Commissioned Bridge In Kyenjojo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>By Daily Monitor<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heavy\nrains have ravaged a new bridge in Kyenjojo district which was commissioned two\nmonths ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bridge\nwhose construction cost about Shs95m, is a crossing link between the Sub\nCounties of Katooke and Kyarusozi, across the Aswa Swamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According\nto residents, the bridge started collapsing on Saturday and was completely down\nby Tuesday when all its culverts were washed away by running water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Geoffrey Businge, a resident in the area, says the bridge was a major route which helped them connect to the two Sub Counties conveniently. He says that other routes like Kyenjojo \u2013Rugombe \u2013 Kyarusozi are expensive and time-consuming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robert\nMugisha, a farmer in the area says many of them are grounded because they\ncannot access the farms or even transport their agricultural produce to the\nmarkets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mugisha\nbelieves the work was done shoddily, considering the small size of the culverts\nand the fact that soil was used to seal the road instead of concrete. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monitor.co.ug\/News\/National\/Heavy-rains-destroy-newly-commissioned-bridge-Kyenjojo\/688334-5314168-h3f8fwz\/index.html\">Read\nmore&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Daily Monitor Heavy rains have ravaged a new bridge in Kyenjojo district which was commissioned two months ago.
