{"id":5722,"date":"2019-10-03T09:36:55","date_gmt":"2019-10-03T06:36:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=5722"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:34","slug":"multiple-agencies-make-a-mess-of-food-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/10\/03\/multiple-agencies-make-a-mess-of-food-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Multiple Agencies Make A Mess Of Food Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Okisegere\nOjepat<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Safe\nfood is essential to our health and wellbeing, yet it has emerged as a\npolitical issue in recent months, as different authorities chase a role in food\ntesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\nchase is now taking a new shape, on the announcement by the Ministry of Health\nin conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture of their intention to launch a\nnational food safety agency overseen jointly by the two ministries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But\nthis is a structure fraught with risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\nsure, the agencies currently charged with food regulation have been flayed for\nquality failures, from aflatoxins in maize, poor quality cooking oil,\npesticides residue in fruits and vegetables, and antibiotic-filled meats.
