{"id":5674,"date":"2019-10-01T11:35:47","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T08:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=5674"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:34","slug":"focus-on-awareness-as-kenyas-cyber-threats-jump-135pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/10\/01\/focus-on-awareness-as-kenyas-cyber-threats-jump-135pc\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus On Awareness As Kenya\u2019s Cyber Threats Jump 135pc"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Adonijah Ochieng<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cyber threats in Kenya more than doubled in the year to June, new data by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) shows, indicating heightened risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National\nCybersecurity Centre (NCC) detected 51.9 million threats for the 2018-2019\nperiod, compared to the 22.1 million recorded in the 2017-2018 period<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the\nlast quarter of the year alone, some 26.6 million cyber threats were picked\ncompared to 11.3 million threats in the January-March period this year, the\nregulator said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CA\nsaid this increase mirrored a global trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis\nincrease in the number of cyber threat events detected is attributed to the\nglobal increase in malware including ransomware attacks during this period,\u201d\nsaid CA in its latest report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\ntrend highlights the growing threat that millions of internet users in Kenya\nface today as attackers become more aggressive and complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nnumber of advisories given by the NCC jumped 15.3 percent to 16,347 in the last\nquarter\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessdailyafrica.com\/datahub\/Focus-on-awareness--as-Kenya--threats-jump\/3815418-5292602-4n0mhb\/index.html\">Read\nmore&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adonijah Ochieng Cyber threats in Kenya more than doubled in the year to June, new data by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) shows, indicating heightened risk.
