These seven countries, Bangladesh,\nCambodia, Ethiopia, Nepal, Peru, Rwanda and Senegal, were selected because they\nhave all performed unexpectedly well in improving childhood health relative to\ntheir&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/data.worldbank.org\/indicator\/NY.GDP.PCAP.KD.ZG\">economic\ngrowth<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many factors at the root of their achievements,\nmost notably, a strong integrated and coordinated health system built on\nprimary health care. However, one cross-cutting factor stands out that we\nbelieve allowed them all to achieve significant health gains but which, so far,\ntends to be always overlooked: trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is clear from a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wellcome.ac.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/wellcome-global-monitor-2018.pdf\">report<\/a>,\npublished by the Wellcome Trust and the Gallup Institute earlier this year. It\nsurveyed 140,000 people in 140 countries to find out how they felt about\nscience and health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A study on public attitudes to science and health on a\nglobal scale, the survey covered topics such as whether people trust science,\nscientists, and information about health; the levels of understanding and\ninterest in science and health; the benefits of science; the compatibility of\nreligion and science; and attitudes to vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a remarkable overlap between countries that have achieved progress in health goals such as reducing under-5 mortalities and those that ranked high in the trust survey.
