{"id":5627,"date":"2019-09-30T09:59:35","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T06:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=5627"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:34","slug":"government-resorts-to-bamboo-to-reverse-deforestation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/09\/30\/government-resorts-to-bamboo-to-reverse-deforestation\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Resorts to Bamboo to Reverse Deforestation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>By Daily Monitor<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Government, through the water and environment sector, has\nmoved to embark on a mass bamboo planting exercise to tame the high depleting\nforest cover and also restore the serene environment radiating from forests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The strategy came to light during the release of the 11th\nWater and Environment Sector Report of the Financial Year 2017\/\/2018 in\nKampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report provides evidence on investments, targets,\nachievements, and challenges for the sector during the Financial Year\n2017\/2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report captures a deploring decline in the country&#8217;s forest cover sinking from 24 percent in the 1990s to 12.4 percent in 2015 alone, a rate said to be one of the highest in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Deforestation is still a major challenge, with the decline of forest cover from 24 percent in 1990 to 12.4 percent in 2015.
