{"id":5612,"date":"2019-09-27T11:18:26","date_gmt":"2019-09-27T08:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=5612"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:34","slug":"hunter-gatherers-win-un-environment-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/09\/27\/hunter-gatherers-win-un-environment-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Hunter-Gatherers Win UN Environment Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>By allAfrica<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A pioneering carbon offset project run by Hadza\nhunter-gatherers in Tanzania has been awarded the UN&#8217;s Equator Prize for\nconservation and sustainability at a ceremony in New York, along with 21 other\nindigenous groups that are using natural solutions to combat climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the past 40,000 years, the Hadza community has been\nliving in the Yaeda valley just south of the equator, sandwiched between the\nsalt planes of Lake Esayi and Mount Ngorongoro in northern Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hadza are among the last surviving hunter-gather\ngroups on the planet.
