Some\nof the biggest names in the video games industry, with a combined audience of\n970 million players, have today formally committed to harness the power of\ntheir platforms to take action in response to the climate crisis. Combined,\nthese commitments from 21 companies will result in a 30 million tonne reduction\nof CO2 emissions by 2030, will see millions of trees planted, new \u201cgreen\nnudges\u201d in game design and improvements to energy management, packaging, and\ndevice recycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These\nvoluntary commitments were announced today at UN Headquarters on the side-lines\nof the UN Secretary-General\u2019s Climate Action Summit. Under the banner of the\nPlaying for the Planet Alliance, CEOs from 14 platforms and games makers,\nincluding Sony Interactive Entertainment, Microsoft, Google Stadia, Rovio,\nSupercell, Sybo, Ubisoft and WildWorks, were present to showcase their\ncommitments. The Alliance intends to support companies in sharing learning and\nmonitoring progress on the environmental agenda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
