{"id":5512,"date":"2019-09-23T09:53:01","date_gmt":"2019-09-23T06:53:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=5512"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:33","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:33","slug":"kenya-requires-one-stop-shop-for-building-permits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/09\/23\/kenya-requires-one-stop-shop-for-building-permits\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya Requires One-stop Shop for Building Permits"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By JAMES\nODONGO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2018 World\nBank report on the ease of doing business in Kenya based on the parameter of\nacquisition of building permits and development approvals ranked the country at\nposition 124, below Rwanda (112), Botswana (59) and Namibia (107).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The poor ranking was attributed\nto the long processes and lengthy periods needed to acquire a development\npermit with some applications taking up to 156 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A recent survey conducted by\nthe Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) indicates that while Nairobi,\nMombasa and Kisumu counties had e-construction permit systems, users still face\na myriad of challenges including frequent downtimes and delays in processing of\napplications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The average time taken to\nacquire a building permit in Nairobi ranges from between three months to two\nyears. The delays a largely due to the human interaction with the portal.
