So-called green energy is booming, but not fast\nenough to curb climate change, which is accelerating at an alarming pace as\noil, gas and coal consumption soar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, hydro: over the past\ndecade, global production capacity of renewable energies has increased fourfold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aside from dams of more than 50 megawatts, renewables\ncapacity has reached 1,650 gigawatts, compared with 410 GW in 2009, according\nto a survey by the Frankfurt School of Management and Bloomberg New Energy\nFinance (BNEF) ahead of the UN Climate Summit on September 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main reason is the spectacular increase in their cost\ncompetitiveness &#8212; since 2009, the price of energy generated by solar panels\nhas plummeted by 81 percent and that of electricity generated by terrestrial\nwind farms has plunged by 46 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/news\/world\/The-long-road-to-clean-energy\/1068-5277556-awfoe5\/index.html\">Continue\nReading\u2026<\/a> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By AFP The vital transition to a zero-carbon economy is likely to be a long and rocky road.
