{"id":4901,"date":"2019-08-27T10:28:42","date_gmt":"2019-08-27T07:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=4901"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:30","slug":"rwanda-maintains-ban-on-agric-imports-over-listeria-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/08\/27\/rwanda-maintains-ban-on-agric-imports-over-listeria-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda Maintains Ban On Agric Imports Over Listeria Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>By\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newtimes.co.rw\/profile\/nasra-bishumba\"><strong><em>Nasra Bishumba<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rwandan government says it does not have immediate plans to lift the ban, which was imposed on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newtimes.co.rw\/section\/read\/226059\">importation of meat, dairy products and vegetables from<\/a>\u00a0South Africa nearly two years ago over a viral disease commonly known as listeriosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rwanda\nsays it is still waiting for an internationally recognized body to declare that\nthe danger was over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Director-General of Livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Th\u00e9og\u00e8ne Rutagwenda, told <em>The New Times<\/em> in an exclusive interview that what makes listeria, a foodborne disease, even more, dangerous is that it can co-exist with other microorganisms and can even survive under refrigeration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe waited for a South African government regulatory body as well as an internationally recognized body to declare that the danger was over and this never came.
