But, amid the protest, some are questioning how this compares with the\nrest of the world, with surprising results.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nissue has got people checking out&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov\/map\/\"><strong>Nasa&#8217;s maps of fires around the\nworld<\/strong><\/a>.\nWhen you look at the map from Sunday, it clearly shows more fires burning in\ncentral Africa. Over a period of two days last week Angola had roughly three\ntimes more fires than Brazil,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-08-23\/more-fires-now-burning-in-angola-congo-than-amazon-maps\"><strong>according to data Bloomberg news\nagency obtained from Weather Source<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data said there\nwere 6,902 fires in Angola and 3,395 fires in neighbouring Democratic Republic\nof Congo, compared with just 2,127 fires in Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\nMonday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-latin-america-49469476\"><strong>Mr Macron announced<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;that the leaders\nof the G7 &#8211; Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US &#8211; would\nrelease $22m (\u00a318m) to help fight fires in the Amazon rainforest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But then he drew\nattention to the African fires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The forest is\nalso burning in sub-Saharan Africa&#8221; he tweeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Macron added that\nhe was &#8220;considering the possibility of launching a similar\ninitiative&#8221; in sub-Saharan African to that announced for the Amazon. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-africa-49471644\">Read more\u2026<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BBC The severity of fires in the Amazon has prompted a global outcry.
