{"id":4699,"date":"2019-08-19T09:36:43","date_gmt":"2019-08-19T06:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=4699"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:28","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:28","slug":"making-mercury-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/08\/19\/making-mercury-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Making Mercury History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>By UN Environment<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two years ago, on 16 August 2017, the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercuryconvention.org\/\">Minamata\nConvention on Mercury<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 a global treaty to protect human health\nand the environment from human-induced emissions and releases of mercury and\nmercury compounds \u2013 came into force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Annually, as much as 9,000 tons of mercury are released\ninto the atmosphere, in water and on land.
