{"id":4411,"date":"2019-08-07T09:32:44","date_gmt":"2019-08-07T06:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=4411"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:27","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:27","slug":"28000-people-face-starvation-in-south-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/08\/07\/28000-people-face-starvation-in-south-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"28,000 People Face Starvation In South Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>By JOHN ADUKATA<br> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some 28,000 people are facing serious starvation in South Sudan\u2019s Aweil State, a minister has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those in the\nrural areas are most at risk, Aweil State Minister of Agriculture John Amar\nAkook added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Integrated\nFood Security Phase Classification also said that some 275,000 people have been\nfacing a food crisis between May and July in the same area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Akook,\nquoted in the local English daily&nbsp;<em>Juba Monitor<\/em>, added that\nthe food gap has contributed to looming poverty and hunger in rural areas after\nseasonal rains caused flooding. People living in the lowlands were most\naffected &#8212; they were unable to cultivate their farms as a result of the\nfloods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, aid\nagencies warned that about 8.1 million South Sudanese are at risk of being food\ninsecure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nhumanitarian crisis in South Sudan deteriorated after the outbreak of civil war\nin 2013. The UN rated the humanitarian crisis as one of the worst in the\nworld.
