{"id":4172,"date":"2019-07-29T10:15:18","date_gmt":"2019-07-29T07:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=4172"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:26","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:26","slug":"how-to-make-the-most-out-of-incubation-hubs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/07\/29\/how-to-make-the-most-out-of-incubation-hubs\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Make The Most Out Of Incubation Hubs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>By Edwin Ashimwe<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite efforts to enhance the performance of local start-ups\nwithin the eco-system of Rwanda\u2019s ICT sector, resilience remains fairly low,\ngovernment figures show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Ministry of Trade and Industry, 98 percent of businesses are considered SMEs, contributing 41 percent of all private-sector jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, most of them collapse before their fifth anniversary due\nto challenges related to macroeconomic factors, business environment, growth\nopportunities, and historical determinants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A survey carried out by the same ministry in 2016, highlighted a lack of raw materials, sufficient working capital, limited market and lack of skilled labor is the major challenges faced by SMEs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since then, the government, through its various institutions and\nstakeholders, has come up with various programs to help SMEs improve their\nbusiness operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the programs has been the concept of incubation hubs to\nhelp tech-oriented entrepreneurs and young innovators nature their ideas and\nturn them into viable and scalable businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the initiative has left a number of incubated projects\nhanging in doubt as they fail to succeed after the incubation phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only a few local start-ups have sustained their market, such as AC\nGroup, DM HeHe, Hexakomb, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Needless to mention, the majority of start-ups incubated in hubs\nsuch as KLab, have not survived the sector\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newtimes.co.rw\/news\/how-make-most-out-incubation-hubs\">read more&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Edwin Ashimwe Despite efforts to enhance the performance of local start-ups within the eco-system of Rwanda\u2019s ICT sector, resilience remains fairly low, government figures show.
