Teaching supplies have run out and in some school, pupils have been without a teacher for more than a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Minister said that plans for building new schools had been put on hold and hiring of the teaching staff was frozen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than six in ten\nschools in Swaziland do not have enough teachers because of government\nfinancial cutbacks, the&nbsp;Eswatini Principals Association (EPA) President<a href=\"http:\/\/new.observer.org.sz\/details.php?id=9594\">Welcome Mhlanga had previously said.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Howard-Mabuza said the government was broke and could not afford to finance education.<br> <br> The problem is not new as the government, appointed by King Mswati III the absolute monarch in Swaziland, has run the economy into the ground over many years. Public services across the kingdom, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/swazimedia.blogspot.com\/2019\/07\/food-collection-points-set-up-in.html\">health<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/swazimedia.blogspot.com\/2019\/01\/chaos-and-confusion-across-swaziland-as.html\">education<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/swazimedia.blogspot.com\/2019\/07\/police-in-swaziland-walk-to-crime.html\">policing<\/a>\u00a0are crumbling. The government owes its suppliers about E3 billion (US$215 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Thursday (18 July 2019) teachers and school principals\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/swazimedia.blogspot.com\/2019\/07\/swaziland-schools-run-out-supplies.html\">marched on the government<\/a>\u00a0to present a petition calling for urgent action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the financial crisis, King Mswati continues to live lavishly. He has two private airplanes, at least 13 palaces and fleets of top-of-the-range cars. At his 50<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0birthday in 2018 he wore a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/swazimedia.blogspot.com\/2018\/04\/king-wears-watch-worth-us16-million.html\">watch worth US$1.6 million<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/swazimedia.blogspot.co.uk\/2018\/04\/swazi-king-wears-suit-of-diamonds.html\">suit beaded with diamonds<\/a>\u00a0that weighed 6 kg.\u00a0Days earlier he had taken delivery of his second private jet.
