{"id":3862,"date":"2019-07-18T11:58:51","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T11:58:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=3862"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:25","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:25","slug":"enhancing-the-contribution-of-family-farmers-to-sustainable-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/07\/18\/enhancing-the-contribution-of-family-farmers-to-sustainable-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Enhancing The Contribution Of Family Farmers To Sustainable Development"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>By FAO<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Family farmers need enabling public policies and legal\nframeworks that will &#8220;allow them to adapt and flourish in today&#8217;s changing\nenvironment&#8221; and maximize their contribution to sustainable development,\nFAO Director-General Jos\u00e9 Graziano da Silva said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He made the remarks at the launch of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/family-farming-decade\">the\nUN Decade of Family Farming<\/a>&nbsp;on the sidelines of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/hlpf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">High-Level\nPolitical Forum on Sustainable Development<\/a>&nbsp;in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event saw the participation of the heads of FAO and\nthe International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), which lead the\nimplementation of the Decade, co-organizers Costa Rica and France, as well as\nLa Via Campesina, the World Rural Forum and the World Farmers&#8217; Organization\namong others.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We need to reform our food systems and link the\nactivities of the Decade of Family Farming with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/nutrition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Decade of Action\non Nutrition<\/a>.
