{"id":3715,"date":"2019-07-11T08:05:54","date_gmt":"2019-07-11T08:05:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=3715"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:24","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:24","slug":"focus-on-policy-and-investment-as-teenage-pregnancies-remain-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/07\/11\/focus-on-policy-and-investment-as-teenage-pregnancies-remain-high\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus On Policy And Investment As Teenage Pregnancies Remain High"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>By Daisy Okoti <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rate of teen\npregnancies in Kenya has remained largely unchanged over the years, a survey\nshows, turning the spotlight on the effectiveness of ongoing initiatives aimed\nat curbing the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pregnancy among teens\naged 15-19 stands at about 18.1 percent \u2014 an insignificant change since 1993\nwhen it was estimated at 20.5 percent, according to a report by the African\nInstitute for Development Policy (AFIDEP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Narok, Samburu and West\nPokot top in teenage pregnancies in Kenya, a new survey showed, underlining the\nstruggles to end retrogressive practices among some pastoral communities which\nexposed young girls to early sex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An estimated 68 percent\nof girls aged 15-24 years in Narok have ever fallen pregnant, according to\nAFIDEP.
