Kenyans\non social media are mourning the death of Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob\nCollymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Collymore died at\nthe age of 61 on Monday 1 July at his home in Nairobi after a long battle with\nAcute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He has left behind one wife and four\nchildren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of\nRobert (Bob) William Collymore CEO if SAFARICOM. PLC, which occurred at his\nhome in the morning of 1st July 2019,\u201d read part of the statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
During\nan interview in August 2018, Bob Collymore opened up on his journey battling\nwith cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI went to London\nand they told me I had acute myeloid leukemia- a rare kind of blood cancer that\nis curable. I was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors told me at the time that I\nhad probably had it for about 6 months he revealed,\u201d said Bob Collymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2018If I were not\nCEO at Safaricom, if I worked at the call center for instance, I would get the\nsame medical access. I have 6 colleagues currently undergoing cancer\ntreatment,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
President\nUhuru Kenyatta also released a statement mourning the death of the Safaricom\nboss citing that we have \u2018lost a distinguished corporate leader whose\ncontribution to our national wellbeing will be missed.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It is with deep sadness that I have this morning received news of the death of Safaricom CEO Mr Bob Collymore after years of battling cancer. As a country, we’ve lost a distinguished corporate leader whose contribution to our national wellbeing will be missed, \u201csaid President Uhuru Kenyatta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
