{"id":3447,"date":"2019-06-28T08:48:15","date_gmt":"2019-06-28T08:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=3447"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:30:22","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:30:22","slug":"nigeria-capable-of-generating-u-s-10-billion-from-honey-export","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2019\/06\/28\/nigeria-capable-of-generating-u-s-10-billion-from-honey-export\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria Capable of Generating U.S.$10 Billion From Honey Export"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Bassey Inyang<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Director General\/Chief Executive Officer\nof the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mr. Segun Awolowo, has stated\nthat Nigeria is capable of generating at least $10 billion annually from local\nand international trade in honey and other hive products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the USAID bee\nkeeping pollination project, Nigeria can generate over 10 billion dollars from\nlocal and international trade in honey and other hive products as domestic\nconsumption currently stands at 380,000 metric tonnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, global monetary value of trade in honey alone\nstands at about $4.5 million. Apart from the present high and still growing\ndemand, bee products are highly priced globally, especially in non-producer\ncountries.
