But coastal and marine\necosystems will have to be preserved, and the adverse effects of climate change\ncombatted if this potential is to be realized.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the launch of the\nUnited Nations Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 14\non the conservation and sustainable use of the marine environment, the oceans\nhave become a key priority of many high-level discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, Kenya&#8217;s\nBlue Economy Conference, hosted in November last year, served as a catalyst for\ninternational, regional and local cooperation on the sustainable development of\nthe region&#8217;s oceans.
