However, its latest report \u2013 the 464-page\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/webstore.iea.org\/world-energy-outlook-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Energy Outlook 2020<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 indicates that solar power is now the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.carbonbrief.org\/solar-is-now-cheapest-electricity-in-history-confirms-iea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201ccheapest electricity in history.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the past decade saw the growth in solar power (and wind power) worldwide, this coming decade will be its shining years. The tipping point currently in effect (involving electricity from solar farms becoming cheaper than fossil fuel power plants) ensures that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2020\/10\/solar-cheap-energy-coal-gas-renewables-climate-change-environment-sustainability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Economic Forum<\/a>\u00a0reported: The IEA\u2019s main scenario has 43% more solar output by 2040 than it expected in 2018, partly due to detailed new analysis showing that solar power is 20\u201350% cheaper than thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IEA writes: Renewables grow rapidly in all our scenarios, with solar at the center of this new constellation of electricity generation technologies. Hydropower remains the largest renewable source of electricity.
