{"id":11494,"date":"2020-11-05T00:37:15","date_gmt":"2020-11-04T21:37:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=11494"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:31:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:31:18","slug":"tanzania-kenyas-mara-river-species-in-peril-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2020\/11\/05\/tanzania-kenyas-mara-river-species-in-peril-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanzania, Kenya&#8217;s Mara River Species in Peril &#8211; Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest report has singled out a number of factors that could wipe out ten species organisms, whose survival depends on Mara River that is shared by Tanzania and Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Released recently, the Mara River Biodiversity Report categorises hippos, shoebills and crab species as among the most vulnerable ones due to threats to freshwater biodiversity within the Mara river basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other species whose survival is in peril include Victoria tilapia, grey-crowned crane, Madagascar pond-heron and Killifish species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report prepared by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) singled out unsustainable agriculture and poor land use practices, water pollution, unsustainable fishing and the presence of non-native species as some contributing factors that pose a threat to the survival of the species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;A number of non-native species have been introduced to the Mara river basin.
