Environmental activist Vandana Shiva claims<\/a> that \u201c[t]he global economic crisis is arguably a result of the predominantly Western industrialized nations\u2019 distorted conception of nature and humans\u2019 relationship with the natural world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n But there is another way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Indigenous stories are part of the identity of a community\u2019s members and these stories can make a significant impact on shaping a more positive cognitive framework related to nature. American cognitive linguist George Philip Lakoff\u00a0argues\u00a0<\/a>that human beings utilize unconscious structures to conceptualize events.
