{"id":10372,"date":"2020-07-17T09:24:43","date_gmt":"2020-07-17T06:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africasustainabilitymatters.com\/?p=10372"},"modified":"2026-01-11T05:31:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T05:31:10","slug":"uganda-is-getting-3-million-new-trees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rayscohosting.best\/ASM\/2020\/07\/17\/uganda-is-getting-3-million-new-trees\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda is Getting 3 Million New Trees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Human settlement, agriculture, and logging have not been kind to the world\u2019s trees, and in turn, have been nothing short of disastrous for the animals that call those trees home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reforestation efforts seem like a natural fix \u2013 planting trees is good for the climate and good for wildlife \u2013 but it\u2019s also a slippery slope into&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2018\/07\/16\/how-conservation-became-colonialism-environment-indigenous-people-ecuador-mining\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">green colonialism<\/a>&nbsp;when done in developing nations. Yet there are ways to approach reforestation with respect for local communities and in which everyone wins; and the newly launched &#8220;Wildlife Habitat &amp; Corridor Restoration Project&#8221; in western Uganda appears to be just such an effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Announced on July 14, also known as World Chimpanzee Day, the project is a partnership between the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.janegoodall.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jane Goodall Institute<\/a>&nbsp;and reforestation non-profit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/onetreeplanted.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">One Tree Planted<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan is to plant more than 3 million trees, supporting long-term and large-scale restoration of the Albertine Rift Forests.
